What is THC Delta 8? – THC as You Know it, Just Without the Paranoia

What is THC Delta 8? If you use Cannabidiol (CBD) therapeutics, you will know that most legally have to contain less than 0.03% Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). However, what you might not know, is that analogs of THC exist which are both legal and safe to use therapeutically.

THC Delta 8 is the most popular legal THC analog currently on the market. Here, we’ll look at why this is. We’ll also look at how people use THC Delta 8 to promote better well-being.

What is THC Delta 8?

THC Delta 8 is almost identical in terms of chemical composition to THC Delta 9. (Commonly known as is the most psychoactive cannabinoid found in regular cannabis.) However, THC Delta 8 lacks some of the atomic bonds found in THC Delta 9 and promotes a very different kind of cannabis high.

Often, people who use THC Delta 8 describe its effects as similar to those of regular THC, just without THC side-effects like anxiety and paranoia. However, people don’t use THC Delta 8 to get high. Instead, THC Delta 8 is used by people to stimulate appetite, elevate mood, and even mitigate pain.

  • THC Delta 8 shares the same analgesic properties as THC Delta 9. However, using THC Delta 8 does not result in paranoia or an intense cannabis high.
  • Research suggests that THC Delta 8 may have neuroprotective properties that may make it beneficial for Alzheimer’s, ALS, and Parkinson sufferers.
  • Pairing THC Delta 8 with regular CBD seems to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of CBD itself, through what is commonly known as the ‘entourage effect.’

How is THC Delta 8 Different from THC Delta 9

In regular cannabis, THC Delta 9 is formed through what is called decarboxylation. This is where tetrahydrocannabinolic acid in cannabis is exposed to heat.

By comparison, THC Delta 8 is formed when THC Delta 9 itself starts to degrade. This means that THC Delta 8 only occurs in tiny amounts in hemp and cannabis biomass. As a result, THC Delta 8 is quite costly to produce.

Does THC Delta 8 Make You High?

Does THC Delta 8 make you high? The simple answer is yes. As a result, it is not advisable to use THC Delta 8 when working, driving, or on the go. However, people who use THC Delta 8 typically report highs as being 50% less intense than regular THC highs.

A THC Delta 8 high is also usually described as euphoric and uplifting as opposed to anxiety or paranoia-inducing. However, it is important to note that some people still report high sensations as being comfortable.

THC Delta 8 Benefits and Uses

Often, THC Delta 8 being high inducing is enough to deter many users. However, many people also believe that the therapeutic benefits of THC Delta 8 far outweigh potential side-effects.

As a rule, the analgesic properties of THC Delta 8 are far superior to those of regular CBD. This is thanks to the fact that THC Delta 8 binds directly to G-proteins coupled with CB1 endocannabinoid receptors in the central nervous system. (By, comparison, CBD only stimulates these endocannabinoid receptors.)

Research also shows that THC Delta 8 may be able to help alleviate symptoms of insomnia, sleep apnea, nausea, and intraocular inflammation in glaucoma sufferers. This makes THC Delta 8 particularly popular among chronic pain sufferers and people undergoing chemotherapy.

Is THC Delta 8 Legal?

Despite being a near-identical analog of regular THC, THC Delta 8 that is sourced from hemp is 100% legal. However, being legal does come with a few caveats. While it is legal to buy and use THC Delta 8 therapeutically, doing so may result in users failing drug screenings required by employers or law enforcement officials. This is due to THC Delta 8 resulting in the creation of the same metabolites in urine that are formed after using regular cannabis. As a result, it is not advisable to use THC Delta 8 if failing a drug screening may adversely affect your employment.
