What’s up With Marijuana in Ukraine?

On October 25, Ukrainians, at the initiative of President Volodymyr Zelensky, will be asked how they feel about the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes.
And the discussion about this has been going on for a long time. Moreover, grant activists (the so-called “sorosets”) act as the main lobbyists for the “legalization”.
At the same time, one of the main beneficiaries of the legalization of marijuana (if it happens) may be criminal authorities in the south of Ukraine, who control cannabis plantations.
According to the Ukrainian Association of Medical Cannabis, using medical cannabidiol helps to deal with chronic pain and seizures. It’s also effective for treatment of depression and other mental disorders.
About 2 million of Ukrainians require CBD-included treatment. These are cancer, Alzheimer’s,  palliative diseases and epilepsy patients.
In addition, almost 80% of war veterans can’t cure PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) without using medical marijuana.
Now, the cultivation of hemp and its use for the manufacture of drugs in Ukraine is prohibited by law. For the cultivation and storage of this type of plant faces a penalty ranging from a fine of $10 to 3 years in prison.
